With a tree-planting campaign in the Harz region, the Climate Initiative of the Printing and Media Associations is sending a clear signal in support of active climate protection. On behalf of its participating companies, the Federal Association of Printing and Media planted more than 3,500 trees in the Harz region on 23 March 2026, an area affected by climate change.
For almost two decades, the Climate Initiative has been supporting printing companies in recording and reducing CO2 emissions in the print sector, and in making a financial contribution to climate protection projects for unavoidable emissions. In addition to investing in climate protection projects in the Global South, the initiative is also increasingly involved in voluntary reforestation projects in Germany, which are implemented in collaboration with the Unternehmen Wald Foundation. The planting campaign in the Harz Mountains is part of this commitment and contributes to the reforestation of damaged forest areas.
The Harz region is one of the areas that has suffered particularly severely in recent years from drought, storms and massive bark beetle infestations. By planting trees suited to the local conditions, the climate initiative supports the long-term development of stable and resilient forests, thereby actively contributing to nature conservation and climate protection.
On 23 March 2026, the trees donated last year by the companies participating in the Climate Initiative were planted. On behalf of the companies, Julia Rohmann, project manager for the Climate Initiative at the BVDM, and Stefan Brunken, advisor to the Climate Initiative of the Printing and Media Associations, planted over 3,500 trees.
“With this tree-planting campaign, we are making climate protection visible and tangible. It exemplifies the commitment of our member companies to taking responsibility and putting sustainable action into practice,” emphasises Julia Rohmann, project manager at the Federal Association of Printing and Media.
BVDM
The Federal Association of Printing and Media (BVDM) is the umbrella organisation for the German printing industry. As an employers’ association, a political trade association and a technical trade association, it represents the positions and objectives of the printing industry vis-à-vis politicians, government bodies, trade unions and the supply industry. The BVDM is supported by eight regional associations. Internationally, it is organised through its membership of Intergraf and FESPA. The printing industry currently comprises around 6,300 predominantly small and medium-sized enterprises with more than 99,000 employees subject to social insurance contributions.
