Companies collect data but often doubt its reliability and therefore work with fragmented system landscapes that hinder the flow of information. On this topic, the Hamburg-based management consultants at Apenberg & Partner have conducted a survey on digital transformation in the printing industry and packaging printing.
“The survey results clearly show that AI has arrived in the industry, but its full potential is not yet being realized. As long as data quality, system integration, and trust in a company’s own key performance indicators are lacking, digital transformation will remain piecemeal,” emphasizes Yorck Wittkuhn, a consultant at Apenberg & Partner and project manager for this study.
Only 17 per cent rely on their company data.
Company key performance indicators are regularly reviewed and extensively utilized. Nevertheless, the latest survey shows that just under 17 per cent of companies have complete confidence in their production and company data. The study makes it clear that there remains a gap between data usage and trust in data.
Four in ten companies lack an integrated system landscape.
Digitalization within companies is often held back by a lack of system integration. 40 per cent of respondents state that they do not use a comprehensive digital solution covering all areas of the business. The result is a patchwork of separate systems, which makes data exchange difficult and hinders a unified view of business processes.
Artificial intelligence is an integral part of many businesses.
Three-quarters of the companies surveyed rely on AI technologies. The results suggest that AI is currently used primarily as a tool for research and improving efficiency, rather than as a strategically integrated business solution.
