The requirements for media production are undergoing a fundamental shift. Omnichannel publishing—the integration of communication channels, strategies, and technologies—along with complex production processes, now demands more than just technical expertise.
An increasing number of project managers, graphic artists, designers, and other professionals are taking on responsibilities previously associated exclusively with the role of a media production specialist. In response, the FMP has restructured and updated its professional development program, introducing the “Media Operation Manager” designation, which centers on an expanded competency profile. At its core is a comprehensive understanding of media production: Which media and channels are best suited for specific communication tasks? How can print and digital media be effectively integrated? What technical, organizational, and economic factors must be considered? And how can quality, costs, and workflows be managed?
For a Variety of Professional Roles
This training program is not limited to traditional media production specialists. It is equally valuable for project managers, graphic artists, designers, and other professionals working within agencies, corporate environments, or the broader media industry.
Modular, Flexible, and Practice-Oriented
The FMP’s professional development system is built on a modular framework, offering three qualification levels: Junior Media Operation Manager, Intermediate Media Operation Manager, and Expert Media Operation Manager. The curriculum covers topics such as media and production processes, color management and print standardization, digital workflows and data management, cross-media strategies, quality assurance, business fundamentals, cost estimation, the application of artificial intelligence, and relevant legal frameworks.
Proven Qualification
More than 600 media production professionals have already completed the association’s “Certified Media Production Professional (FMP)” training program. The next course begins on February 23, 2027, with the final examination scheduled for March 11, 2027.
Professional Association for Media Production (FMP)
Based in Rhineland-Palatinate, the FMP (Fachverband Medienproduktion) is an independent professional association that consolidates expertise and knowledge across a wide range of facets within the communications industry. A core mission of the FMP is to provide professional development covering all aspects of media-related knowledge and management expertise essential to media production. Through its “Certified Media Production Professional (FMP®)” program, the association offers—by its own account—a unique opportunity in Germany to earn a recognized certificate validating various professional competencies.
