GIO-compliant UV flexo inks:
SolarFlex FSP by Sun Chemical

Sun Chemical has introduced the SolarFlex FSP range of UV flexo inks, offering label and packaging manufacturers a food-compliant solution that meets regulatory requirements and delivers productivity, print quality and low migration.

According to Sun Chemical, SolarFlex FSP meets the requirements of the German Printing Inks Ordinance (GIO) and the Swiss Printing Inks Ordinance (SIO) with selected raw materials and low migration properties, and is suitable for labels, sleeves and packaging. The new formulation is odour-free, printable, has low viscosity and cures quickly, meeting high performance requirements. The solution protects product integrity by minimising the risk of migration, flavour transfer and odour contamination.

The SolarFlex FSP UV flexo ink range has undergone testing and validation in the European label and packaging industry, including migration testing and odour evaluation at print speeds of over 200 metres per minute. The tests confirmed suitability for high-speed production while meeting the requirements of the upcoming GIO regulation and other regulations and guidelines.

Jonathan Sexton, Product Manager for Energy Curing Systems at Sun Chemical, comments: ‘Packaging regulations in Europe are constantly evolving and present new challenges for manufacturers and brand owners. Our next-generation SolarFlex FSP inks have been developed to help customers meet regulatory requirements without compromising on performance or emissions. The optimised formulation fully complies with increasingly stringent regulations and enables packaging manufacturers and brand owners to achieve their sustainability goals.’
