SCREEN Europe, based in Aalsmeer, the Netherlands, is a pioneer in digital inkjet printing and presented innovative printing solutions at drupa 2024. In the eight years since the last Drupa, various endeavours have led to the development of the Truepress JET 560HDX high-speed inkjet printer, a printing system designed to open up new design and productivity opportunities in commercial printing, publishing, direct mail and other print industries.
Inkjet technology has come a long way since the last drupa in 2016. Print quality is often perceived as one of the primary strengths of traditional offset printing, but at Drupa, trade visitors were also able to see that inkjet printing is capable of matching the quality of offset printing.
Next-generation inkjet printers deliver sharp, vivid images with resolutions up to 1,200 × 1,200 dpi at constant speed. Newly developed ink sets reduce ink consumption while delivering high optical density. SCREEN demonstrated that LABEL and PAC presses can integrate low-migration UV and Truepress water-based inks to meet food safety standards. Here, SCREEN’s technology with the efficient drying system of the Truepress JET 560HDX offers the advantage that high ink coverage can be processed safely and precisely at full printing speed. In addition, the precise web control system with inkjet head adjustments ensures impressive accuracy at all speeds, according to the manufacturer.
Productivity innovations such as continuous flow printheads, which reduce clogged nozzles and ensure stable and consistent printing, can enable printing without cleaning streaks, reducing substrate waste. Technologies coupled with SCREEN’s EQUIOS software, capable of integrating autonomous corrective image adjustments into the JET, LABEL and PAC printers, result in robust presses with a quick return on investment, according to SCREEN.
Bui Burke, Senior Vice President Sales at Screen Europe, summarised his predictions for the future of digital print following the conclusion of drupa 2024: “I have spoken to several influential people in the industry. It is now widely accepted that by the next drupa in 2028, digital inkjet printing will be firmly established in the print landscape, and those who are too inflexible or unable to embrace this change risk being overtaken by the competition.”
