LOPEC 2025
Smart Living

LOPEC, the trade fair and congress for flexible, organic and printed electronics, will open its doors in Munich from 25 to 27 February 2025. Under the focus topic of Smart Living, companies, research institutions and experts will present how printed electronics can pave the way to a digitalised, sustainable society.

‘The success of printed electronics can be seen in numerous applications at LOPEC,’ emphasises Armin Wittmann, Exhibition Director of LOPEC. ‘Some have become an integral part of our everyday lives, while others are only just beginning their triumphal march.’ Wafer-thin flexible circuits, sensors and printed electronic components are essential for advancing digitalisation. Innovations for various industries from the healthcare sector to building management are bundled under the focus topic of Smart Living. The portfolio for the healthcare sector ranges from medicine packaging with integrated electronics that remind patients to take their medication and monitor their intake to smart shoe soles for rehab patients and digitalised occlusion measurement in dentistry.

Intelligent buildings and smart cities

The focus is on smart solutions for buildings and cities. The Portuguese materials research institute Centi is showing waste bins that are equipped with printed electronics to automatically detect fill levels and adjust route requirements. In building technology, printed electronics enable reliable touch control of devices and the integration of sensors in floors and walls. The Swedish exhibitor Epishine offers solar cells that can generate electricity from indoor light.

Bridge between materials research and application

‘LOPEC covers the entire value chain from material development to the end product,’ emphasises Armin Wittmann. ‘This year too, leading manufacturers will be presenting the latest trends in materials science.’ Heraeus will be presenting a coating process with particle-free silver inks, so-called MOD inks. Plastics manufacturer Covestro will be showing thermoplastic polyurethane films for the healthcare sector that can be printed with electronics and worn close to the skin. ‘With LOPEC 2025, we are building an even stronger bridge between research and application than ever before,’ explains Wittmann.
