At the PACK EXPO International 2026 in Chicago, Archroma Packaging Technologies unveiled Erthana™, a bio-based platform that can help brands, manufacturers and suppliers achieve their sustainability goals.
Erthana™ was developed to help companies transition to a circular economy for packaging. The platform combines bio-based chemical solutions, technical expertise and application support to enable paper, packaging and tissue paper manufacturers to switch to more environmentally friendly solutions.
The platform currently includes two products: Erthana™ OGB, a bio-based oil and grease barrier, and Erthana™ DSR, a bio-based resin to increase dry strength. Additional products are in development and are expected to be rolled out in 2027.
Erthana™ solutions are based on natural ingredients that do not compete with the food chain. They can help reduce reliance on fossil-based chemical products while maintaining packaging functionality, product integrity and operational efficiency. Compliance with food contact regulations and end-of-life performance were key considerations during development. Erthana™ solutions meet FDA, BfR and BPI requirements.
Lisa Clark, VP Marketing & Sustainability at Archroma Packaging Technologies, explains: ‘Packaging manufacturers and brand owners are under increasing pressure to move away from fossil-based materials and meet regulatory requirements – such as the EU Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR) and Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) schemes – without compromising product performance. Erthana™ combines our sustainability ambitions with proven chemical solutions. It provides customers with a clear path to meet these requirements and make real progress towards a circular economy for packaging. Ultimately, Erthana represents sustainable chemistry that works in practice.’
