Packaging should protect products, meet consumers’ growing expectations for sustainability, promote the circular economy and ensure compliance with legal requirements such as the EU Packaging Regulation. At the Sustainable Packaging Summit, Henkel will show how these challenges can be overcome with practical solutions.
The EU Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR) sets clear requirements for the recyclability of packaging. Henkel supports companies in implementing these requirements in a practical manner. Henkel will be presenting its expertise at the Sustainable Packaging Summit (10 to 12 November in Utrecht, stand 58). ‘Sustainability, performance and regulatory compliance are inextricably linked. With our portfolio of adhesives, coatings and testing methods, we offer solutions for future-proof packaging design,’ says Elodie Picard, Global Head of Sustainability Packaging at Henkel.
Adhesive solutions for recyclable packaging design
One example is the dispersion pressure-sensitive adhesive Aquence PS 3017 RE, which won the FINAT Sustainability Award in the “Optimisation of Recycling” category in 2024. The water-based acrylic pressure-sensitive adhesive for olefin film labels is used for washable PET bottles. In addition to strong adhesion, it is characterised by excellent wash-off separability. Furthermore, with its RE range, Henkel offers a family of adhesives and coatings developed for recyclable packaging design.
Practical tests at Henkel Packaging Recyclab
Henkel operates its own test centres to ensure that packaging is recyclable. At Henkel Packaging Recyclab in Düsseldorf, fibre-based packaging is tested under realistic conditions – from sample preparation and defibration to fibre yield assessment.
