Mimaki Europe
Full-colour 3D printing at Formnext 2024

Mimaki Europe, supplier of industrial inkjet printers, cutting plotters and 3D printers, has announced its participation at Formnext 2024 (19-22 November in Frankfurt, Germany). Mimaki will showcase its 3D printing portfolio at booth E59 in hall 12.1.

Mimaki’s 3DUJ series can be used to create realistic prototypes, models and artworks in design, engineering, medicine and art. The innovative technology is already being used in many companies around the world and Mimaki supports universities and educational institutions that teach students about the benefits of colour 3D printing.

‘We want the next generation to take full advantage of the possibilities of full-colour 3D printing in product design, creative processes and education. This is only possible if 3D printing is integrated into the curriculum,’ says Arjen Evertse, General Manager Sales at Mimaki Europe. ‘That’s why Mimaki has introduced the Academy Pack, which offers educational institutions a discount of up to 40% on the purchase price of a new 3DUJ-2207 printer. The best learning outcomes are achieved through hands-on experience. Students gain practical, future-orientated skills that are applicable across all industries.’

Mimaki’s 3DUJ-553 and 3DUJ-2207 UV-curable inkjet 3D printers can print over 10 million colours and use transparent, translucent inks. Students can experiment with complex designs and visual effects to gain a better understanding of material properties and product aesthetics. Earlier this year, Mimaki, Adobe and the Creapole Design School in Paris organised a three-day workshop where students’ shoe designs were reproduced as realistic 3D printed models. Some of the designs created with Adobe 3D Substance Collection software and printed with the 3DUJ-553 can be seen on the Mimaki stand at Formnext.

3D printing: detailed figures and prototypes

The 3DUJ series is suitable for creating figures and prototypes with a high level of detail and colour fidelity, which are in demand in the automotive sector, for example. With water-soluble support material that can be easily dissolved after printing, all details are retained during post-processing. These functions can be used to create realistic models that can be evaluated before mass production. Visitors to Formnext can see the prototyping capabilities of the 3DUJ series for themselves at the Mimaki stand, including modular furniture by Joao Teixeiria.

Arjen Evertse adds: ‘We are always inspired to see how our customers are using Mimaki’s full-colour 3D printing technology in their industries for a wide range of applications. We are delighted to be able to showcase so many attractive applications for 3D printing at Formnext this year – from more traditional and visually stunning applications such as sculptures and fashion accessories, to experimental, more unusual exhibits such as an augmented reality piano and high-precision insect models. I’m sure the clever and colourful creations on display at the Mimaki stand will attract many visitors to the show who will want to take a closer look at the technology!’
