As a global manufacturer of cardboard and paper packaging solutions, the Edelmann Group is constantly striving to optimise its processes. When the production sites in Wuppertal and Leverkusen were merged in Burscheid, the focus of the new production site was on the manufacture of sustainable packaging solutions made of cardboard and paper.
The challenge was to merge existing inspection processes and introduce a suitable inspection system for print image control that takes different artwork and substrates into account. Particular attention was paid to materials with a low material thickness, such as package inserts.
Innovative solution
The Edelmann Group was already using the EyeC Proofiler 1067 CS and decided to upgrade. In consultation with the EyeC sales team, model EyeC Proofiler 1050 RS was selected. At the same time, the system was validated. Patrick Herminghaus, Quality Assurance at the Edelmann Group, emphasises: ‘On the one hand, the solutions offered by EyeC meet the sometimes complex market requirements for the pharmaceutical printing industry, and on the other hand, EyeC’s support and services have been at a consistently high level for many years. Based on this knowledge and our positive experiences, we have made the conscious decision to continue our collaboration with EyeC and continue to rely on their solutions.’
Quality control with the EyeC Proofiler 1050 RS
In 2023, the EyeC Proofiler 1050 RS was implemented in quality control and checks the quality of printed products against the artwork. The intelligent algorithm of the swipe scanner compensates for fluctuations in the printing process and displays relevant deviations. The comprehensive inspection of print products such as printed sheets and package inserts against approved PDF templates enables the Edelmann Group to analyse them efficiently.
Convincing results
The company has been using the EyeC Proofiler 1050 RS in quality control for a year now and has been able to reduce misjudgements and inspection times. The implementation of the system has also improved scanning and evaluation times and reduced pseudo-suspicions during print image inspection. By enabling a standardised inspection of printed sheets, regardless of the thickness of the substrate, the EyeC Proofiler 1050 RS ensures product safety along the process chain. Patrick Herminghaus confirms: ‘The introduction of the new EyeC Proofiler RS in Burscheid was crucial for the Edelmann Group to continue delivering high-quality packaging solutions for the pharmaceutical industry with optimised, high-performance systems.’ Herminghaus adds: ‘The precise print inspection and extensive capabilities of the EyeC Proofiler 1050 RS make it an ideal solution for quality control in the pharmaceutical industry.’
