LF laminating machine at Drupa

The ‘Triplex SL One Shot’ LF laminating machine was impressively presented at Drupa. During the demonstrations, visitors were able to marvel at how substrates were laminated with various adhesives to create interesting, innovative Triplex laminates. Both recyclable triple PE or triple PP composites and the polyester/aluminium/PE composite.

For the first time at a trade fair, 3-layer lamination with solvent-free adhesives was demonstrated live in a single pass. With adhesives that enable energy savings of 80% and the elimination of emissions compared to conventional technologies. Part of the programme was the processing of innovative laminates made from flexible substrates, structures made from fully recyclable mono-materials and paper, which are aligned with the recently adopted EU regulation on packaging recycling.

Three new technological innovations
The first was the solvent-free adhesive coating head version SL N-GEN, a further development of the original Nordmeccanica coating head for solvent-free adhesives. An innovation that can fully automate the set-up of new jobs in solvent-free lamination.

The second technological announcement was Coating Weight Management (CWM), the result of a collaboration with the US company Nordson, which has created an innovative process monitoring technology that makes it possible to reliably and precisely monitor coating and laminating processes.

Finally, it was announced that artificial intelligence (AI) can be used for the first time in the design of production processes. A technology that can use data analysis and self-learning capabilities to make recommendations for setting up new orders. All that needs to be entered is a new order recipe to receive the list of machine settings digitally calculated by the AI, which then passes the digital settings on to additional devices and appliances,

According to the manufacturer, the three new technologies announced are able to work in synergy with the combined end result to optimise process efficiency, production quality and general process optimisation.

megapak
As a project management and sales company in the converting industry, megapak has been offering first-class mechanical engineering and expertise for winders, LF laminating systems and packaging lines since the early 1990s. In 2009, megapak took over the representation of the renowned machine manufacturer Nordmeccanica. The company, based in Hilden, North Rhine-Westphalia, is also the exclusive representative of other Italian machine manufacturers such as Ghezzi & Annoni, Euromac, Zancaner and Colines.

Nordmeccanica
The history of Nordmeccanica began over 30 years ago and is at the same time a piece of the history of the coating and laminating industry. In the mid-1990s, the Simplex concept was developed, a type of solvent-free laminating machine that made Nordmeccanica a market leader in flexible packaging. In the 1990s, the company based in Piacenza in northern Italy was taken over by Antonio Cerciello.
