New development from Mayer & Cie
First braiding machine with 48 carriers

Albstadt-based braiding machine manufacturer Mayer & Cie. has been offering braiding machines with 48 carriers since autumn 2024 and the first MR-11 braiding machine is due to leave the factory in Albstadt before Christmas. The first MR-15 machine equipped with 48 carriers is scheduled to follow in spring 2025. With braiding machines with 48 carriers, customers benefit from larger inner tube diameters, short set-up times and large spool volumes when processing yarn and wire.

‘We are delighted to be able to present this new development to our customers,’ says Patrick Moser, Head of the business unit. ‘It significantly increases the range of applications for our machines.’

More carriers for larger inner diameters

Until now, Mayer & Cie. braiding machines were available with 16, 20, 24 and 36 carriers. The option of equipping both the MR-11 and MR-15 with 48 carriers extends the range of inner hose diameters. Braiding systems for wire reinforcement braids offer an internal diameter of high-pressure hoses of up to 50 millimetres and systems for textile braids achieve internal diameters of up to 150 millimetres when equipped with 48 carriers.

Same bobbin size with more carriers

While the number of carriers has increased to 48, the volume of the bobbins with which the braiding machine is loaded remains the same. The Bobbin Standard has a bobbin volume of 1,580 cubic centimetres for yarn and wire. The Bobbin Long offers 3,920 cubic centimetres for yarn only. The Bobbin Extra Long can only be loaded with yarn and offers a volume of 5,170 cubic centimetres. ‘For users, this combination of a higher number of carriers and a larger bobbin volume means that more material can be processed before a bobbin change is required,’ explains Patrick Moser. ‘This means that set-up times are shorter for the same machine output.’ The rotor speed remains the same for the MR11 and MR15 models, regardless of the number of carriers with which the machine is equipped.

Extensive combination options

The MR-11 and MR-15 braid according to the maypole principle. The MR-11 works in a 2-over-2 braiding pattern, the MR-15 in a 3-over-3 pattern. Both machine types are available as single, double and triple deck machines and can be ordered with 16, 20, 24, 36 and 48 carriers.

Mayer & Cie.

When the ‘Vereinigte mechanische Werkstätten Mayer & Cie.’ was founded in 1905 were founded, Germany was still ruled by an emperor. Two world wars, an economic miracle and a revolution in information technology lie between then and now. Since 2019, Mayer & Cie.’s braiding machine production has been based at the company’s headquarters in Albstadt and Mayer & Cie. occupies a leading position in the global circular knitting machine market.
