The former Chairman of the Board of Fogra Research Institute for Media Technologies, Jan te Neues, passed away on 19 November at the age of 84. His loss leaves a deep void, as te Neues maintained close contact with Fogra even 20 years after his departure as CEO.
It is with deep regret that Fogra has to announce that its former long-standing Chairman of the Executive Board, Jan te Neues, passed away in Kempen on 19 November at the age of 84. The Managing Director of the Institute, Dr Eduard Neufeld, and the Chairman of the Executive Board, Stefan Aumüller, join the entire Fogra staff in expressing their deepest sympathy to the family. Jan te Neues’ life was closely linked to the research institute. He was involved in various committees at Fogra for 33 years. In 1967, te Neues became a member of the Flat Printing Technical Advisory Board and three years later a member of the Fogra Executive Board. In 1978, he took over the honorary position of Chairman of the Board from Eduard Oldenbourg. “The work for Fogra as a scientific institute, the work with Fogra employees, the commitment to the printing industry, everything has become a matter close to my heart,” said te Neues on his retirement from the Board in 2003. He had an efficient and lasting influence on the fortunes of Fogra. He always attached great importance to the fact that the approach to research must come from practice. He was predestined for this practical approach. After graduating with a degree in mechanical engineering, he joined his father’s company in 1965. He took over te Neues Druckereigesellschaft mbH + Co KG as Managing Director from his father Dr Heinz te Neues in 1971. He was not only the founder of the company, but also a founding member of Fogra.
With tireless commitment and great dedication, Jan te Neues was responsible for Fogra’s affairs for 25 years in an honorary capacity. For this he was honoured with the Federal Cross of Merit in 1996. “Jan te Neues has a firm place in our hearts. His impressive dedication and his contribution to Fogra will always be remembered,” says Dr Neufeld. Even in the 20 years after his official term of office, he remained loyal to Fogra and was in close contact with the current CEO Aumüller and the Institute Director Dr Neufeld. “We mourn the loss of an important man who shaped Fogra into an institute characterised by practical relevance and a service-oriented approach,” explains Aumüller. But even 56 years after his first engagement, his influence continues to be felt.
