Labelexpo Europe 2025 – EyeC draws a positive conclusion

EyeC GmbH looks back on a successful participation at Labelexpo Europe in Barcelona. The international trade fair for labelling and packaging solutions provided a platform to present the latest developments in automated artwork checking and print image inspection and to engage in dialogue with customers, partners and industry experts from all over the world.

Environmental policy with a sense of proportion – BVDM calls for reduction in bureaucracy

At the start of work on the EU Commission’s omnibus environmental package, the German Printing and Media Association (BVDM) has called for a noticeable reduction in excessive bureaucratic requirements for the printing and media industry. From the BVDM’s point of view, there is an urgent need for reform of the EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR). Especially for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), a practical, proportionate and legally secure design of the existing environmental requirements is essential in order not to jeopardise the competitiveness and sustainability of the industry.

The BVDM welcomes the EU Commission’s initiative to revise existing environmental regulations as part of the long-announced ‘Environmental Omnibus Package’. Together with its European umbrella organisation INTERGRAF, the BVDM supports the overarching goal of strengthening the competitiveness of printing and media companies by reducing unnecessary administrative burdens.

K 2025: Sun Chemical – presents colour and PPS solutions

Sun Chemical will be presenting a comprehensive portfolio of colourants and high-performance polyphenylene sulphide (PPS) products at K 2025, the world’s leading trade fair for plastics and rubber, from 8 to 15 October in Düsseldorf.

These include innovations for colouring plastics, functional effects, new pigments, advanced effect coatings and colour solutions for fibres and e-mobility. In addition, PPS engineering compounds and PPS types for applications ranging from electric drives in automobiles to drinking water systems will also be presented.

FACHPACK 2025 – Innovation meets practicality

Mimaki Germany, a leading manufacturer of inkjet printing and cutting technologies and international digital printing manufacturer, will be exhibiting two systems dedicated to the trade fair’s main theme of ‘Transition in Packaging’ and sustainable and climate-friendly business practices.

New standard for print production – Durst Group integrates GMG colour management

Durst Group, a leading manufacturer of digital printing and production technologies, announces the integration of GMG spectral colour management technology into its proprietary workflow and the Open Software Initiative’s open Smart Factory portfolio. The official launch of the integration will take place around Printing United 2025.

Durst aims to set a new industry standard for automated and colour-accurate printing, regardless of the printing system or substrate. The Durst workflow will be delivered with embedded GMG spectral colour management and existing customers with a software agreement can benefit from this solution at no additional cost, according to Durst. The integration extends across Labels & Packaging, Corrugated and Sign & Display.

Two new flatbed printers from swissQprint

swissQprint is launching two new flatbed models, tailored to users with high quality requirements and small to medium production volumes. Both models, Topi 5 and Oryx 5, complete the Generation 5 launched in January 2025.

The models of different sizes are available immediately: Topi 5 is a 3.2×2 metre flatbed printer that can produce up to 126 sqm/h. Oryx 5 is the 2.5 m wide counterpart with a maximum output of 114 square metres per hour. According to the manufacturer, both allow maximum variety and are highly precise thanks to a roller option. ‘With the new, synchronised overall range, we have a tailor-made solution for every size of business, with Topi and Oryx aimed at users with high quality standards and small to medium print volumes,’ explains Carmen Eicher, Head of Sales and Marketing at swissQprint.

IPI 2025: Industrial printing and functional manufacturing

Industrial Print Integration (IPI) is recognised as the leading industry conference for innovative printing applications. The 2025 programme includes developments in the fields of AI-supported robotics, human-machine interfaces and new printing technologies. The fourth edition of the industry event will take place on 12 and 13 November 2025 at the Crowne Plaza in Düsseldorf-Neuss.

A&P study on the packaging industry 2025

The German packaging industry is facing profound structural changes. After strong growth until 2022, the industry has been experiencing a downward trend since then. In 2024, the production value in Germany was around 30 billion euros. Apenberg & Partner is forecasting a further decline to 27.4 billion euros by 2025 and to 26 billion euros by 2026.

BVDM Economic Telegram Business situation improves

The business climate in the German print and media industry deteriorated slightly in July 2025. The business climate index determined by the BVDM showed a decline of 2.5 percent compared to the previous month. At 90.7 points, the index was around 0.7 percent below the level of the same month last year. The current situation assessment was significantly more optimistic than in the previous month, but the business outlook for the next six months was gloomier.

Environmental advertising: BVDM calls for practicable rules

The forthcoming implementation of the European EmpCo Directive (“Empowering Consumers for the Green Transition”) brings with it new regulatory requirements for environmental advertising in the EU. From September 2026, environmental claims made to consumers are to be regulated uniformly across the EU. The German implementation will take place via amendments to the Unfair Competition Act. The BVDM is monitoring the legislative process and is advocating for legally secure, practical and SME-friendly regulations in the interests of the print and media industry.

Japanese technology group Fujifilm is now taking orders in the Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) region for the Fujifilm Jet Press 1160CF. The new high-speed continuous feed inkjet press was unveiled at a special event in the region on 9 and 10 July 2025.

The results of the annual industry survey conducted by the German Printing and Media Industries Federation show that the print and media industry continues to be characterised by uncertainty. The energy crisis and the weak economic situation led to low capacity utilisation and a difficult order situation in 2024.

Minimum wage debate – BVDM criticises politicians

In June, the independent Minimum Wage Commission will decide on an increase in the statutory minimum wage from 2026. The German Printing and Media Industries Federation is calling on the Federal Ministry of Labour not to interfere politically in the minimum wage debate. In a statement to the Minimum Wage Commission and the Federal Ministry of Labour, the BVDM criticises the threat to increase the minimum wage to 15 euros by law as an unacceptable interference in collective bargaining autonomy.

BVDM economic telegram – Business climate deteriorates

In May 2025, the seasonally adjusted business climate in the German print and media industry deteriorated and the slight upward trend since February 2025 has come to an end for the time being. The seasonally adjusted business climate index calculated by the BVDM showed a decline of 4.3 per cent compared to the previous month. The current assessment of the situation and the business outlook for the next six months were more pessimistic than in previous months.

Coalition agreement – BVDM sees good approaches

The German Printing and Media Industries Federation welcomes the rapid agreement reached by the CDU/CSU and SPD in the coalition negotiations. This is because Germany would need a reliable government with the ability to act in order to bring the economy back to where it once was: world export champion, innovative location with high economic growth and strong small and medium-sized companies. From the BVDM’s point of view, however, the partially good approaches are not enough and vague promises must be quickly followed by reforms.

BVDM economic telegram – Business climate index breaks through downward trend

In February 2025, the seasonally adjusted business climate in the German print and media industry improved, returning to the level seen at the end of 2024. While the business outlook for the next six months remained virtually unchanged with a slight decline, the current business situation assessment was more positive than in January. The business climate index calculated by the German Printing and Media Industries Federation recorded a seasonally adjusted increase of 1.8 per cent compared to the previous month.

VDMA: Overregulation and excessive costs
